This ZenMate VPN review explains what existing subscribers can do and why old sign-up, download and free-trial instructions should not guide a new purchase. The important distinction is between a legacy ZenMate account and the app currently used to connect.

What happened to ZenMate VPN?
According to ZenMate’s official migration announcement, new registrations and purchases ended on 16 March 2023. Support for its original desktop and mobile apps ended on 1 May 2023. Existing eligible subscribers were directed to use CyberGhost applications with their ZenMate credentials.
That is more specific than saying ZenMate simply closed or that it still works exactly as before. A functioning account page, an installed browser extension and a supported desktop VPN connection are three different things. This review does not claim that we have tested a current subscriber account, measured connection speeds or verified streaming access.
Who should use this guide?
- Existing customers: check subscription status and the account’s download instructions before changing apps.
- People considering a new purchase: do not rely on old ZenMate prices, trial buttons or third-party download pages.
- Browser-extension users: check the separate browser guidance below. Desktop migration does not establish that every extension is currently supported.
ZenMate download: use the account route
For an eligible account, the migration notice points to the My Devices area for CyberGhost downloads. Start from the account portal, confirm that the subscription is active, and follow its instructions for the correct operating system. Do not use an archived installer solely because its filename says ZenMate.
- Sign in to the official ZenMate account portal.
- Check the subscription’s status and expiry date.
- Follow the device download or migration instructions shown for your account.
- Install the supported application from the official destination.
- Connect and confirm which application is providing the connection before removing an old installation.
ZenMate on Android and iPhone
The original ZenMate mobile apps are part of the legacy setup. For Android or iPhone, begin with your existing account’s migration instructions and the official store destination it supplies. A similarly named app, an APK mirror or an old store listing is not a substitute for those instructions.
Before installation, check the app publisher, the supported operating-system version and the account you intend to use. If the store asks you to buy a new subscription while you believe you already have valid access, stop and resolve that with support first. A new CyberGhost purchase and access through a legacy ZenMate entitlement should not be assumed to be interchangeable.
ZenMate pricing and renewal for existing users
There is no current ZenMate new-customer price to recommend here. Under the migration terms, eligible direct subscriptions with automatic renewal could continue, while App Store and Google Play subscriptions had different renewal arrangements. Expired or non-renewing subscriptions could not simply be extended with a new ZenMate purchase.
Your own billing record matters more than an old “per month” headline. Check the amount actually billed, renewal date, currency, payment channel and cancellation status in your account and receipts. Contact support if those disagree. This page does not promise that a particular historical deal remains available.
Is ZenMate free, and is there a free trial?
Old pages may still mention a ZenMate free VPN, a seven-day trial or a money-back guarantee. Those historic offers do not establish that a new customer can register today. No new ZenMate trial is recommended here. A trial, a permanently free plan and a paid subscription with refund terms are different offers.
Existing free browser access, where it still functions, should be assessed separately from desktop or mobile subscription access. We have not verified a currently supported free browser service. Do not enter payment information on a mirror site to “activate” a supposedly free legacy plan.

How this ZenMate VPN review assesses the service
Judge the installed application and subscription available to you, rather than transferring old ZenMate review scores to a different app. Check update history, the privacy policy, device compatibility, available connection protections and how to reach support. If you need a specific streaming service or server location, verify it during the applicable evaluation or refund period instead of treating an old review as a guarantee.
There are no new hands-on speed, leak or streaming results in this review. Historic server counts, unlimited-device claims, protocol lists and ratings have therefore not been presented as current measurements. That avoids giving a legacy product a misleading contemporary score.
Our recommendation
Existing subscribers should check their entitlement before paying again; new buyers should not purchase through an old ZenMate offer. The practical comparison is between supported access already included in an existing account and a separate new subscription, not between two current ZenMate plans. Confirm the installed app and its terms rather than transferring a historic ZenMate rating to CyberGhost. No current speed, streaming or value winner can be established from retired prices and old test results.
