How to Turn Off Roblox Parental Controls: Current Steps

Family gaming permissions illustrated with generic devices and symbols

Quick answer: To turn off Roblox parental controls for your linked parent account, open Settings → Parental Controls → child → pencil icon → Unlink accounts → Unlink. This ends that parent’s management. For more play time or one game, change that setting instead. Roblox’s age, regional and device requirements still apply.

This guide is for a parent or account owner making an authorized change. The old four-digit parent PIN is no longer the current system. Choose between changing a rule and ending parent management, then check the outcome on the account that prompted the change.

Choose the change you actually need

  • Allow more time: review the available Daily limit options while retaining the parent link.
  • Allow one game: consider a specific allowed-game request instead of broadening all content access.
  • Stop this parent’s management: unlink that parent account from the child account.
  • Fix a phone-level block: change the appropriate device setting; Roblox controls do not cancel it.
Three independent limits on Roblox accessParent account settings, Roblox age and region eligibility, and device restrictions separately affect access. Unlinking the parent ends that parent’s management; platform eligibility and device restrictions remain. What can still restrict Roblox? Changing or unlinking Roblox parent controls does not remove separate account-age or device restrictions.

My recommendation remains to change the smallest setting that solves the problem. Removing a parent link for one game can give up account management you still want. A targeted change is easier to review with the child and reverse if it turns out to be unsuitable.

If more than one parent is linked, think in terms of the specific account you are unlinking. Ending one parent’s link is not evidence that every other parent relationship or device rule has been removed.

Parent accounts, Roblox Kids and Roblox Select

Roblox uses linked accounts with parent privileges rather than the discontinued parent PIN. According to its current parent FAQ, eligible adults use their own age-checked account to manage the linked child. Knowing the child’s password or an old parental email address is not the same as having parent privileges.

The newer Roblox Kids and Roblox Select account types also change what an apparent restriction means. Roblox describes Kids as ages 5–8, Select as 9–15 and standard accounts as 16+, with regional age variations. Kids has the full parent-control suite; Select retains the full suite through 12 and selected controls or visibility through 15. Standard accounts can retain parent visibility through 18.

These account types are not a parent on/off switch. Age checks, regional availability and the content catalog can limit an action even after a parent changes a setting. Do not follow an old guide that promises every chat feature or restricted game will open once Account Restrictions is switched off.

For an account whose age is incorrect, use Roblox’s official age-correction process. Entering a false birthday to evade limits does not establish legitimate eligibility and can leave the underlying account problem unresolved.

Before you change the settings

  1. Confirm your parent username and the exact linked child username. Display names alone can be misleading.
  2. Keep access to the parent’s recovery email and security settings; do not share the parent password to approve one game.
  3. Note the current content, time and spending settings that you want to retain.
  4. Read the restriction message on the child’s device. Identify whether it comes from Roblox, the operating system or another family tool.
  5. Agree whether the goal is a narrower rule change or ending this parent’s management.

If the account link is missing, use Roblox’s official linking process. If you cannot sign in, use account recovery or support. A paid unlocker, a downloaded script or a third-party monitoring subscription does not establish access to the parent’s account.

A parent account and a child account can be open in different browser or app sessions on the same device. Check the username before making a change. For a family with multiple children, also check the selected child each time you move between settings.

Roblox’s account-linking help gives this parent-side removal route:

  1. Sign in to the parent account linked to the child.
  2. Open Settings: the gear at the top right on desktop, or More → Settings in the mobile app.
  3. Open Parental Controls and select the intended child account.
  4. Select the pencil icon at the top right.
  5. Choose Unlink accounts, then confirm Unlink.

Afterward, that parent account no longer manages the child account. Treat this as ending a management relationship, not deleting the child account or making Roblox unrestricted. Relinking later is a separate account-linking procedure.

Change one rule without unlinking

For daily play time, use the linked parent’s child dashboard, then Screen time → Manage → Screen time limit and review the Daily limit options. Roblox’s screen-time help explains that reaching the allowance prevents further use for the rest of that day. The chart is a seven-day average, not today’s remaining allowance.

The total platform-time report and Top Experiences are not identical measures: the latter describes time inside individual experiences. Compare like with like before deciding that a time limit failed. Teens 13+ also have their own screen-time controls under Privacy & content restrictions; check which account set the limit.

For one game, the controls overview describes reviewing Pending requests, choosing Allow or Don’t Allow, and managing approvals in Content restrictions → Allowed games. A specific approval is narrower than raising the general maturity setting.

A blocked game can still appear in search. Its presence there does not mean the block failed. Roblox says a block applied while the child is playing takes effect the next time they enter the game. When checking a change, inspect the setting and the next entry rather than using a search result as proof.

Content, communication and spending are separate settings. Review the available options for the child’s actual account, and keep the settings you meant to retain. Removing a restriction on one feature does not require loosening unrelated controls.

What unlinking will not change

Age checks and communication eligibility

Roblox Kids chat is off by default and can be enabled through a linked parent for age-checked users. Select introduces chat with safeguards where available; standard age-checked accounts can have chat enabled by default where the region supports it. An account without an age check does not gain chat merely because a parent unlinks.

The current Kids/Select guidance describes Restricted content as 18+. An allowed-game decision does not override that age requirement. Check the current account type and the exact content label rather than relying on an older generic description of teen access.

Device and network restrictions

Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, console rules, router filtering and a managed school’s device policy can still affect Roblox. A phone showing a downtime or blocked-app message needs a change in that system. Roblox’s parent dashboard cannot remove it.

Purchases, moderation and account access

A game controller, coin purse, blank gift card and parentheld key.
Game access, purchase permission and giftcard spending have different limits.

Changing a content setting is not an approval for every purchase. A Roblox spending limit is also separate from a phone’s app-store purchase restrictions. Roblox’s controls overview notes that its monthly spending limit does not cover gift-card redemption; do not treat it as a complete cap on every way Robux can enter the account.

A password problem, moderation action or connection failure is another issue. Identify the exact message before removing supervision as an attempted fix. Keeping records of the current rules is useful because different systems can block the same activity for different reasons.

Keep a clear family agreement about unwanted contact, reporting a concerning interaction and asking for help. Controls support that arrangement; the absence of a technical block does not establish that every interaction is suitable.

Troubleshoot missing or unchanged controls

Check that you are in the linked parent account and have selected the correct child. Another adult’s account, the child account and an old recovery email are not interchangeable. If the relationship is absent, follow official linking or recovery rather than searching for the discontinued PIN.

A game or chat is still unavailable

Check the account type, age-check status, region and the specific game or communication setting. For a single game, review whether a request was actually approved or an existing block remains. A maturity setting and a specific allowed-game decision can be different controls.

If a control shown in the current official help is missing, record the username role, device, app version and exact message and contact Roblox support. Do not infer that a rollout, a regional eligibility rule or an account issue can be fixed by unlinking.

Time reports do not match the expected result

Distinguish the daily allowance from the seven-day average and from time spent in individual experiences. Then check whether the limit came from the linked parent, the teen’s own screen-time setting or the device. A bedtime closure may be device downtime even when the Roblox daily allowance is not exhausted.

Check the result after a change

  1. Reopen the correct parent/child settings and confirm the rule or link you intended to change.
  2. Try the specific permitted action on the child’s account, such as entering the agreed game.
  3. For a changed game block, check the next entry as well as the saved setting.
  4. Confirm that spending, communication and device rules you wanted to keep remain configured.
  5. If you unlinked, confirm that this parent account no longer offers the management you intended to end.
  6. Record the changed setting and agree when to review it.

Check one intended outcome at a time. If the family agreed to allow one game, a successful test is access to that game with the other planned rules retained. It is not access to every chat feature or a different age-restricted experience.

If the result differs from the expectation, keep the error wording and account role in the support request. Do not repeatedly change several unrelated settings: it becomes harder to identify which layer is enforcing the restriction.

My recommendation

Adjust the particular limit first; unlink only when you want to end that parent’s account management. This preserves useful controls while addressing the actual access problem. The newer Kids/Select catalogs and age-checked communication requirements make a blanket promise of full freedom especially misleading.

You do not need to buy monitoring software to perform these account changes. Wider device supervision is a separate family decision. It should not be presented as a paid solution for unlocking Roblox’s own eligibility rules.

Read Roblox’s current Parental Controls FAQ for the management available to your linked account. For separate phone rules, our Android controls guide and iPhone controls guide explain the device layer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the old Roblox parent PIN to turn controls off?

No. Roblox replaced the parent-PIN system with linked accounts that have parent privileges. Use the linked parent account and its current settings.

How do I unlink Roblox parental controls?

In the linked parent account, open Settings → Parental Controls, select the child, choose the pencil icon, then Unlink accounts and confirm Unlink. This ends that parent’s management.

Does unlinking unlock all games and chat?

No. Roblox’s account-age, age-check, regional and content requirements still apply, as do separate device or network rules. Ending a parent link is not unrestricted access.

Can I allow one game without unlinking?

Where the account offers the feature, review the game’s request and manage specific approvals through Allowed games. A targeted approval does not override Roblox’s Restricted-content age requirement.

Why is a blocked game still visible in search?

Roblox says blocked games can remain in search results. A block set during play takes effect on the next entry, so check the saved rule and the next entry rather than the search listing alone.

Is the screen-time chart today’s remaining allowance?

No. Roblox describes the chart as a seven-day average. The Daily limit setting, total platform time and time in individual experiences are different values.

Will unlinking remove Apple Screen Time or Family Link?

No. Those are separate device or account systems. Review the restriction in the system that is enforcing it.
